"Best practices in health promotion are those sets of processes and activities that are consistent with health promotion values/goals/ethics, theories/beliefs, evidence, and understanding of the environment, and that are most likely to achieve health promotion goals in a given situation" (Kahan & Goodstadt, 2001)

Welcome to our Best Practices web site!

On this home page, we'll introduce you to our work in exploring the meaning and use of "best practices" in health promotion.

This site contains the products of more than six years work that reflects the support of a large number of organizations and individual practitioners. In effect, it represents a manual for taking a best practices approach to health promotion.

The products of our work include:
  1. A conceptual model that we refer to as the "Interactive Domain Model of Best Practices in Health Promotion" (the IDM)
  2. A definition that reflects the elements of the IDM (see definition above)
  3. The IDM Operational Framework designed to assist practitioners in taking a best practices approach to health promotion
  4. A computer-based version of the IDM Operational Framework
  5. An elaboration of each of the elements of the IDM
  6. An elaborated model related to the use of evidence in taking a best practices approach to health promotion
  7. Extensive resources that are readily accessible to health promotion practitioners
  8. An IDM Manual that collates all the information and resources in one publication
The development of the concepts, tools and resources in support of taking a best practices approach to health promotion is an ongoing program of work .

We welcome feedback and input from those who are involved in exploring the meaning, role, and application of taking a best practices approach to health promotion.
